Timothy Kupferschmid is an entrepreneurial-minded executive with more than
20 years of forensic DNA experience. He has extensive international experience
in French and English speaking Africa. Mr. Kupferschmid holds an MBA from
Western Governors University, a master's degree in forensic science (MFS)
from the George Washington University and an AB degree from Bowdoin College
in biology and environmental studies. Mr. Kupferschmid has worked as a senior
DNA analyst at the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL), served
as the Laboratory Director of the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory and
was the Forensic Technical Director at Myriad Genetic Laboratories, Inc.
Most recently, Mr. Kupferschmid was elected to the Board of Directors of
the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD). He served on
this volunteer Board from 2005-2008. Current and past professional memberships
include American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), Scientific Working
Group on DNA Analysis Methods (SWGDAM), Maine Medico-Legal Society, Maine
Management Service, NDIS (National DNA Index System) Audit Review Panel and
the Utah Valley University Biotechnology Program Advisory Board. Mr. Kupferschmid
has given hundreds of scientific presentations and has numerous
scientific publications. Mr. Kupferschmid is active with the Salt Lake Chamber
of Commerce and the World Trade Center Utah.
Daniel S. Hellwig, MSFSDaniel Hellwig, Sorenson Forensics’ DNA Technical Leader, has been with Sorenson Forensics since 2009 and has nearly a decade of forensic science DNA experience. Mr. Hellwig holds a Masters of Science degree in forensic science (Marshall University) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Chemistry. Mr. Hellwig has been qualified as an expert in Forensic Serology/DNA Analysis in the states of Utah, New Mexico and Texas. He holds several certifications to include: FBI DNA QAS Auditor, ASCLD/LAB-International Assessor and Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt.
In 2002, Mr. Hellwig began his forensic science career in the mtDNA section of the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory. He has also served as a Forensic Scientist in Serology/DNA in two public crime laboratories, New Mexico Department of Public Safety (Santa Fe, NM) and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (Bemidji, MN).
Mr. Hellwig has provided instruction to the Forensic Science community in educational, law enforcement, legal and forensic laboratory classroom settings, including a position as professor in the Chemistry Department at New Mexico Highland University in Las Vegas, New Mexico assisting with the creation of a FEPAC accredited Forensic Science program.
Craig NoldeCraig Nolde graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s of Science with a double major in Biochemistry and Genetics. Mr. Nolde was also a member of the Corps of Cadets, attending AFROTC and Officer Training School. He entered the forensics field as an intern in 2002 at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department where he evaluated the transition of gel based quantification to real-time PCR. Following the internship, he was hired and trained in the original Northeast Regional Forensic Institute (NERFI) in Albany,NY before taking on the full time DNA Analyst responsibilities for the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory to handle casework, crime scenes and court testimony. After working a short time for a start-up private forensic company in Redlands, California, Craig joined Sorenson Forensics in 2008. Currently, Mr. Nolde serves as the Manager for our Biotechnical Solutions division. Craig has traveled throughout the United States designing and managing validations of state laboratories’ chemistries, instruments and robotics projects. Mr. Nolde also continues to assist with casework, internal validations, and research for Sorenson. In 2009, Craig began international work to include design, equipment and supply ordering, training, management and validation for the first forensic DNA laboratory in Western Africa (Dakar Senegal) from the ground up. In 2011, Mr. Nolde received his Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
