James LeVoy Sorenson, President and CEO
James LeVoy Sorenson is legendary for his long career inventing and producing ingenious medical devices. He is known foremost for inventing the first cardio-vascular lab computer system to monitor the human heart in real-time, which provides lifesaving information on vital signs within the body. He also invented the disposable venous catheter, which revolutionized the way medications are delivered to patients. Mr. Sorenson's many other groundbreaking healthcare innovations include the first disposable paper surgical mask and the first blood-recycling system for operating rooms and trauma procedures. Dozens of his inventions have resolved persistent medical delivery problems and are ubiquitous in the healthcare industry today.

Douglas Fogg, Chief Operating Officer
Doug Fogg is chief operating officer of the Sorenson Genomics family of companies- Sorenson Genomics, Sorenson Forensics, Relative Genetics and GeneTree DNA Testing Center. Since he assumed this role in 2001, Mr. Fogg has been directing the operations of Sorenson Genomics, including its effort to define new market segments, to develop new products and services for domestic and international direct-to-consumer sales, and to establish national and international distribution networks for its laboratory services.

Mr. Fogg came to Sorenson Genomics with extensive business experience with a variety of international manufacturing companies, where he developed expertise in international marketing and OEM sales; product development; organizational development; operations management; and P&L responsibility. Prior to Sorenson Genomics, he served nine years as President and CEO of OTSCON Inc., a Japanese OEM manufacturer of automotive parts for Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru and Isuzu. Mr. Fogg holds a Masters of International Business Studies (MIBS) with emphasis in international financial management and Japanese from the University of South Carolina, and a BA in International Relations from Brigham Young University.


C. Lars Mouritsen, Chief Scientific Officer
C. Lars Mouritsen is chief scientific officer and director of laboratory operations for Sorenson Genomics. Mr. Mouritsen has extensive experience overseeing the development, validation and implementation of laboratory testing methods using genetics, including methods and technologies pertaining to diagnostics and human identity. He also has significant experience in molecular sequencing, a highly specialized form of genetics that enables scientists to study DNA one molecule at a time. Mr. Mouritsen holds a BS in genetics from the University of Utah. He has been certified as a Specialist in Immunology by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists, and is certified as a Laboratory Specialist in Molecular Biology by the National Certification Agency. He has over 12 years experience in molecular pathology, diagnostics, population genetics, laboratory automation and DNA extraction methods.

Mr. Mouritsen has published numerous research articles and studies in academic journals and trade publications, and is a frequent invited speaker and presenter at scientific and genealogical conferences.


Timothy Kupferschmid, Forensic Laboratory Director & Technical Leader
Timothy Kupferschmid, has more than 16 years of forensic DNA testing experience. Mr. Kupferschmid holds a master's degree in forensic science (MFS) from the George Washington University and an AB degree from Bowdoin College in biology and environmental studies. Mr. Kupferschmid has worked as a senior DNA analyst at the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL), served as the Laboratory Director of the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory and was the Forensic Technical Director at Myriad Genetic Laboratories, Inc. Most recently, Mr. Kupferschmid was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD). Current and past professional memberships include American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods (SWGDAM), Maine Medico-Legal Society, Maine Management Service, and NDIS (National DNA Index System) Audit Review Panel.

Chris Harmston Director of Quality, Records, & Safety
Chris Harmston has been with Sorenson Genomics since 2001 and brings 15 years experience as a Quality Manager in ISO 9000 compliant or accredited organizations. Chris' previous work includes the development and management of quality systems in the manufacturing, construction, and semiconductor industries. Chris' education focused on the semiconductor industry which includes baccalaureate degrees in Physics and Materials Engineering and a Masters degree in Materials Engineering. With a lifelong passion for rock climbing and mountaineering Chris became the Quality Manager for Black Diamond Equipment in 1992 where the manufacture and testing of climbing equipment became his passion. Chris continues to stay involved in the outdoor industry by volunteering his free time to assist medical researchers understand the physiology of victims buried in snow avalanches.
